Staveley Ladies’ 2s
Staveley 2s vs Ilkeston 2s (2nd Nov 2019)
A later start than usual didn’t deter the Staveley second XI squad from continuing where they left off last week.
A 3-0 victory was repayment for some super marking and positional play.
Catherine made excellent use of the right side, getting herself into some lovely positions to receive the ball and drive forward, feeding the forward line of Beth, Abi, Annie and Caitlin.
Goal scorers were Annie, Caitlin and Beth. Man of the match went to Caitlin.
Staveley Ladies’ 3s
Result: Staveley 3-2 Erewash
(Imogen – 1, Loz – 2)
This was Staveley’s best performance to date – better marking, more confident tackling and players coming to meet the ball.
The opposition were experienced and caught them early on with a long ball and a tap in on the post.
Loz went for a run down the right and crossed in for Imogen to score. Staveley went another goal down to make it 1-2.
The second half of the match was much more balanced in their favour as the opposition tired.
The Staveley midfield and forwards found a bit more space and the team had a number of chances. Loz managed to put one of those chances away.
Staveley were still under pressure at times and their defence had to be solid and, supported by the midfield, they managed to breakdown their attacks.
It was 2-2 and both teams were hungry to win.
Staveley forced a corner and Loz scored the winning goal.
Player of the match was Ruby, good marking and superb tackles throughout. Excellent team performance.
