Staveley Women’s Hockey Club match reports – 12/11/19

Staveley 2nds vs Wulfric (away, 4pm) 9th Nov 2019

It was a game of two halves the first half saw some excellent marking and use of the whole pitch.

Everyone held their positions and closed down the opposition really well giving them no time on the ball, much to their frustration.

Staveley attacked up the left with Holly S and Heather then the right hand side of the pitch with Rachel, Catherine, Annie and Lottie creating a few half chances.

They lost the ball against the run of play and the opposition had a break away and scored.

Then, determined, Staveley continued with our attacking up the right hand side, Annie got the ball, took this to back line and crossed to Lottie on the left who was in front of the post and shot at goal, Nic tapped it in to make sure there was no doubt about it to level the score.

The second goal started from Rachel at right back who carried the ball and passed to Hollie who mustered up all her energy and aggression to drive through the heart of the opposition and a quick one two with Lottie drove it into the ‘D’.

The ball found Hollie again and she shot, unfortunately it was blocked but luckily Annie was on the far post and we scored to make it 2-1.

In the second half the opposition piled on the pressure and it was evident that Staveley didn’t have as much time on the ball which meant the opposition had more chances but Staveley stood firm and Charlie, Emma and Rachel were determined not let them through.

Abi had a great shot at goal but unfortunately it hit the post. Heather also scored from the top ‘D’ but it was disallowed, the shot deemed to have been hit outside the ‘D’.

A welcome return by Sophie and a great first debut by Lottie.

Man of the match went to Lottie – well played.
